Martina

Martina, an alumna of The University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia, graduated in 1997 with a Master of Fine Arts degree, specializing in viola. She spent the initial years of her career playing with various orchestras before finding her place as a viola tutti in The Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra (SOSR) in Bratislava.

During her 12-year tenure with SOSR before her move to Canada, Martina contributed to a plethora of recordings, live performances, and international tours that spanned Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Japan. The orchestra’s repertoire spanned the entire spectrum of classical music and included performances and recordings of contemporary pieces, all of the world’s national anthems for the World Olympics, movie soundtracks, world music, and more. These recordings were produced with renowned labels such as OPUS, Supraphon, NAXOS, Marco Polo, and Arte Nova, among others.

Post her professional music career, Martina discovered her affection was not confined to the viola; the violin held her heart. Since she was six, Martina’s deepest wish has been to play beautifully, simply for the love of music. Growing up in a culture steeped in musical tradition, where music was as essential as daily bread, she witnessed firsthand how music served not as a luxury, but as a communal heart for people of all walks of life. In Slovakia and the Czech Republic, music is an integral part of the social fabric, with almost every village boasting a band and families bonding over song and instrument.

Martina believes in the joy of music as a universal language and invites you to explore your musical potential under her guidance. With her help, you can develop the skills to express your joy through music and, in turn, bring warmth and rhythm to your heart and to those around you.
